Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)

This is a standardized test to assess for Narcolepsy and Idiopathic Hypersomnolence. The MSLT consists of a series of short naps, or sleep opportunities, that are performed during the day following your overnight sleep study. The first nap will begin 1.5 to 2 hours after your overnight study ends.

Some of the monitoring devices that were placed on you for the overnight sleep study will be removed.

After these devices have been removed, you should change into your daytime clothes.

In between each nap you will remain awake and out of the bed.

We will provide you with breakfast and lunch during the daytime study.

You are not allowed to have any caffeinated beverages during the day.

Please review your medications with your prescribing doctor at least one month prior to the MSLT. Some of them may need to be discontinued as all anti-depressants, sedatives and stimulants will result in a nondiagnostic test. Your doctor should contact us to discuss this.
